CliftonStrengths Leadership Workshop — Marriott International BMSC Team, China
Context:
In September 2016, Marriott International completed its acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, creating the world's largest hotel chain. The merger added 11 brands — including Sheraton, St. Regis, and Aloft — to Marriott's portfolio, significantly expanding its footprint across Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Bringing together senior leaders from across the newly merged organisation was a strategic priority.
The Engagement:
In August 2017, Chief Marketing Officer Peggy Roe commissioned Victor to design and deliver a CliftonStrengths Leadership Workshop for the senior Management Team from Marriott's Branding, Marketing, Sales and Consumer Services (BMSC) division. The workshop was held in Sanya, China.
The Challenge:
Following the merger, senior leaders from different organisational cultures needed to deepen relationships, build mutual understanding, and increase their capacity to work collaboratively under a unified leadership team.
The Approach:
Victor designed the session around team dynamics, using his integrated CliftonStrengths methodology to help senior leaders understand how their individual talent themes shape the way they work, lead, and relate to one another. The workshop balanced CliftonStrengths frameworks with facilitated discussion, interactive activities, and group reflection — creating both insight and practical application for a high-performing leadership team.
Outcomes:
Senior leaders left with greater self-awareness, a shared strengths language, and practical insights for strengthening collaboration across the newly merged BMSC team. The workshop received a 10/10 rating from multiple senior leaders including the Chief Marketing Officer.
