Over a decade ago, I left the pastoral vocation. I remembered vividly how I stepped into it in my twenties.
Vocare was a program created and designed by Anglican Diocese of Singapore to facilitate those interested to explore the full time #calling. Whether the role is pastoral, creative, caregiving, administrative or teaching in nature, it was a time for the participants to listen, reflect and ask questions.
I was invited to travel from Singapore to Johor Bahru, Malaysia to facilitate a CliftonStrengths session to help each participant discover their #strengths and understand how they can be useful for ministry work.
The session was highly customized.

Got to share some personal stories and grateful that the opportunity to prepare and share brought back many memories.
I deeply respect the vocational work of religious workers. These people built our communities and societies more than they are given credit for.
My best wishes to each participant to take each step by faith and be #courageous in the road ahead.

A few years ago, my wife, Michelle and I made a decision that changed everythingβwe went for marriage counseling.
π Not because we were on the brink of collapse (though we definitely had challenges), but because we believe that thriving marriages need intentional care.
We have seen how easy it is to be careless in marriage relationships and how neglect happens transparently.
We walked away with a deeper understanding of each other, a renewed connection.
Our marriage β€οΈ was rejuvenated. I say that proudly.
That experience also reshaped how I see marriage relationships. It has a multiplier effect to our lives and it cuts both ways.
Iβve experienced how I struggled at work when my marriage is in disarray. It affects everythingβmy energy, my focus, even my success at work felt empty. But when the marriage thrives, I show up as a better coach, colleague, and human being.
βοΈ I have since had a conviction that the greatest gift we can give to our children is a thriving marriage.
β
So Iβm pleased to share that Iβm officially certified as a Prepare/Enrich Facilitator! π€©π
My wife and I received 4 months of marriage mentoring by a lovely and experienced couple followed by 3 weekends of classroom learning. The sessions have equipped us to carry out marriage mentoring work with the younger couples we have been journeying with.
The biggest joy?
Learning together with my wife! π
The sessions have also given me stronger distinctions as an #ontologicalcoach. I can see how the learning will benefit my coaching work with individuals, teams as well as couples.

Self Leadership and Career Workshop - University Students
{Self-Leadership & Career Workshop]
Employers are looking for talent. Often, attributes that employers hope to see in candidates include a great attitude, a strong sense of ownership, resilience etc. Self-Leadership is so needed at the workplace and is a kind of work that every employee needs to do but often neglects.
I do feel that this topic is one that is severely neglected / under-explored or discussed in schools. I see this as a big gap in how we prepare our future generations for their career. And I often wonder why little is being taught about the nature of inner work / self work when it has such huge implications for collaborative work, trust building, communications in the workplace.
I had the privilege to run a workshop for students from James Cook University recently. It was designed to help the students understand how self-leadership is strongly connected to our career goals. I am passionate about investing in the future generations and I see this as a huge part of nation building.
Check out what this workshop covers in this short video.

Marriage Mentoring Training Workshop
Completed the marriage mentoring workshop with my wife. A major milestone personally for me. Attending such a workshop does not mean our marriage is perfect and so we can mentor others. Rather, it means to us that our imperfect marriage creates a possibility to encourage others in a similar journey.
It was a joy to attend and finish the marriage mentoring workshop. It is a very big milestone to go for a equipping workshop together with my wife and to purposefully think about sowing into future generations. Attending this does not mean our marriage is perfect. It simply means to us that our imperfection creates a possibility to encourage others in a similar journey. There is so much we can do to make a difference in peoplesβ lives. βIt is more blessed to give than to receive!β
Strengthening Relationships: Coaching with YWAM Couple
Couple Coaching Session: This was a very memorable session. One was my mentor who helped me intentionally with character building when I started my career. Joseph Chean is also director of YWAM Singapore. His wife, coincidentally, was my Secondary School form teacher who impacted me in my youth. I realized how coaching requires so much trust between the parties especially when it comes to coaching in the context of marriage and family relationships. So much vulnerabilities are revealed and trust between each other is critical. The session also did 2 things for me.
it confirms in my heart that I am deeply passionate about what I do.
It made me realized that it is courage that kept me going. Even though I could see myself as an experienced coach, I still felt inadequate to do this coaching session. In the end, the session seemed to do more wonders for me! I realized that if they had not sowed in my life, I will not have been who I am today. I have learnt courage from them and I was determined to practice courage in moving forward. Iβm immensely grateful for the trust shown in me.
Hope this short reflection will encourage those of you who need courage to overcome the challenges ahead!
