Ontological Team Coaching - Motion Events and Spaces Team

Ontological Team Coaching for Motion Events Team by Coach Victor Seet

After a series of new hires, I had the privilege to start a series of team coaching sessions for the Events & Spaces team for Motion for Impact. As the in-house team coach, this is something I really enjoyed doing.

As part of the ongoing Newfield Ontological Team Coaching program, I also had the privilege of getting a mentor coach give feedback to my team coaching sessions to get even sharper in my team coaching practices.

As an ontological practitioner, the team coaching practice and feedback is extremely valuable as I get to observe my own ontological coaching and notice my blindspots.

The team coaching sessions really helped me to see how powerful a team can be when there is high trust and openness with one another and how team members get to be highly performing and highly collaborative.

Performance Coaching for Results

CliftonStrengths and Performance Coaching for Motion employees by Singapore Ontological Coach Victor Seet

ICF requires certified coaches to continue their learning and practice so I am delighted to complete a Performance Coaching Workshop last weekend by The Coach Partnership. It was fun being a learner again!

I’m also delighted that I get to apply what I’ve learnt immediately as a team coach at Motion: For Impact. So straight away, I did some performance coaching over the week to help team members win at their game! I love the simplicity of this approach.

What’s performance coaching❓
It’s a type of coaching that aims to help individuals win and achieve their goal. The foundation of Performance Coaching is the trust and care between coach and coachee.

It’s a great set of skills for managers who are looking to reduce the reliance of the team on the manager. It is a practice that yields sustainable results.

✅ Staff grow their skills and deliver the required results. They grow their confidence.

✅ Managers benefit in the long run with a more motivated and skillful team and having more time freed up as a result.

✅ The coach helps coachees clarify specifics about their goal. Often, the goal isn’t really that clear.

✅ The coach drills the coachees on their commitment and why they want the results. The coachee might possibly fail at the initial stages. Knowing the purpose strengthens the ability to be resilient.

✅ The coach holds the coachees accountable for the results they want to create for themselves. It’s easy to not hit the goal and find excuses. Having someone to hold a person accountable strengthens the will to succeed.

❌What Performance Coaching is not:
It is not a last ditch intervention to help uncommitted staff.
It is not a tool for managers to achieve their own agenda.
It is not sports coaching. No tactical plans are given by the coach.

🏅What has been my personal learning?
A performance coach needs both the supporting and challenging muscles to serve the client. I realized my challenging muscle is much stronger than my supporting one. So I am now more conscious in my coaching practice.

CliftonStrengths (StrengthsFinder) Workshop Program & Ontological Team Coaching - Wargaming Asia

Integrated CliftonStrengths Workshop and Team Coaching Program for HR Wargaming Asia by Singapore Ontological Coach Victor Seet

It was a very fulfilling day spent with a group of seven HR managers.
1. The group was very engaged, participative and took risks to learn.
2. I use the design format of a Cliftonstrengths (StrengthsFinder) workshop program followed by an ontological team coaching to focus on team application. It went very well.

Objectives of the session:
1. For each HR professional to gain greater self awareness and dive deeper into their individual strengths and weaknesses.

2. For the team to deepen their level of trust collectively.

3. For the team to understand the strengths and aspirations of each person to better collaborate, and jointly make decisions together.

Brief Summary of the Day:
MORNING: We started with a CliftonStrengths discovery workshop, covering the top 5 CliftonStrengths results. There were lots of conversations and activities to help the team engage with each other in a very light-hearted way. There were lots of laughter and many great questions were asked. The activities were specifically designed to help each leader listen to how each other think, feel and behave. This set up the context for the team to build trust and to go deeper with each other as the day moves along.

AFTERNOON: We started with a focus on application. I did some ontological team coaching. I coached the team in the area of trusts and emotions and there were some useful conversations on team mood. Each person committed to bringing the mood that will best serve the team.

Values Workshop - Culture Building

Values and Team Workshop for Motion Creative Agency by Singapore Ontological Coach Victor Seet

Together with my Chief Experience Officer, Hajar, I co-created and facilitated a values workshop for the Motion team. We spent a few months planning for this values workshop as part of a larger frame of building and strengthening the culture for the existing team.

The day went very well. I led an icebreaker that had so much laughter and I loved it! The people were very engaged and by the time the workshop ended, we had many meaningful conversations among the different ones.

CliftonStrengths (StrengthsFinder) Workshop Program and Ontological Team Coaching - Singapore Public Service

CliftonStrengths Team Workshop and ontological team coaching Program for NSCS Senior Management by Singapore StrengthsFinder Expert Coach Victor Seet

This program felt like the perfect case study for me as I look to create one that brings the best of what I have to meet the needs of organisations and teams.

It was a very fulfilling day spent with a group of seven directors. It was fulfilling for two reasons.
1. The group was very engaged, participative and took risks to learn.
2. The designed format of a Cliftonstrengths workshop followed by an ontological team coaching to focus on application went very well.

Objectives of the session:
1. For each leader to gain greater self awareness and dive deeper into their individual strengths and weaknesses.

2. For the team to deepen their level of trust collectively.

3. For the team to understand the strengths and aspirations of each person (particularly the team leader) to better collaborate, and jointly make decisions together.

Brief Summary of the Day:
MORNING: We started with a CliftonStrengths discovery workshop, covering the full 34 CliftonStrengths results.

I started by inviting each team member to share openly about how they felt about the team dynamics and trust level of the team. I also invited the team leader to share the aspirations for the team.

As we move along, there was an opportunity to create a shift in the team’s mood, I Invited the team to take some risks together. We did some trust building activities and gave each other real time feedback. The mood of the team started to shift and the conversations went deeper. Team members started to make requests to each other to help with uncovering leadership blindspots and to grow together. One team member summed up the discussion - “we have never had this kind of conversation with each other in a team setting. Let’s continue to open up, take risks and build deeper trust with each other.”

We rounded the day by going back to CliftonStrengths and ended off with conversations of how we want to leverage each person’s strengths. There was a deeper sense of respect and camaraderie created by the end of the day.

Overall workshop ratings (7 participants): 9.1/10
Feedback given by Team Leader: “I really benefitted from understanding my team members better and having the opportunity to articulate what I hope to see in the org and the support I need. Victor is a great facilitator, put us at ease quickly and allowed us to share safely and honestly.”
