This statement was shared by a Singaporean leader when I asked the room โWhat makes a great leader?โ
It was my first time hearing this response after two decades of leadership work.
And it is very refreshing and deeply inspiring. That moment struck me deeply.
๐คHow much did this person walk the talk?
Out of curiosity, I interviewed (discreetly) two members in the same room. Both had great feedback about this leader and how happy and engaged they are at work.
โ
Lovely.
How did I experience this person through the whole day? Surely such a nugget of wisdom had to come from one who practice this truth consistently.
That leader made me (a facilitator) feel safe to engage freely. There was curiosity to learn, to hear my pov. That leader also created a space where people engaged deeply and freely. There was much openness and vulnerability though-out the day.
โ
I experienced safety.
This was a whole day workshop at NUS Central library diving into #StrengthsBasedleadership. Using the data, we unpacked why some leaders meet followersโ needs and why some donโt. We explored how leaders can specifically meet certain needs of the teams through customized actions and behaviors based on the teamโs CliftonStrengths data.
It was a delightful day spent. Time flew by very fast for a full day workshop and that is always a good indication that we were in flow mode.

CliftonStrengths Leadership Workshop for Schools - AIPS
As MOE focus more on competency development growth, more school leaders are pondering on the difference between strengths development and competency development.
As school holidays come to a close, I had a chance to engage some leaders and educators on how they can use their strengths at work. We explored the difference between strengths development and competency development. We explored how to work better as a team.
Kept the session light hearted since the teachers were only just back from their holidays. It was definitely a session I enjoyed facilitating and I can feel the positive energy consistently throughout.
Some notable feedback from participants that were delightful:
โEngaging, well paced and well conducted. Customized to audience. Very good job done by Victor and team.โ
โTruly insightful session in discovering and leveraging on individual and team strengths.โ
โGood mix of explaination and interactive actvities. The opporrtunity to talk thru w others about our strengths may be awkward at first but good in helping us hear each other out. Appreciated the quiet reading time too.โ
โThe team is very engaging and the content shared was informative and helpful. Thank you, Victor and team.โ
CliftonStrengths Leadership Workshop - Pico Art Session 3
Pico Leadership Workshop - Part 3
After doing 1 session for the Team Leads and following another session with their deputies, this was designed to bring them altogether to go deeper and explore their collaboration, partnerships and leadership work.
We explored about each otherโs cutting edge and how they can better complement each other. We talked about motivators and de-motivators. Last but not least, a pertinent topic for many - managing our blindspots.
I loved following up and deepening the strengths journey for leaders. This was intentionally planned over a period of time and following up allows for the strengths language to be revisited and deepened.
It was a wonderful time seeing the Team Leads having deeper conversations with their deputies and aligning the way they work. Strengths is powerful to deepen our way of being and way of doing.
CliftonStrengths Leadership Workshop - Pico Art Session 2
After session 1 with the Team Leads and many planning meetings, the session 2 with the deputies was finally underway.
It was a fantastic time with this group of creatives! Many are emerging leaders and shared that knowing themselves helped them to be more confident and clear about their own contributions at work.
We talked about strengths as leaders. We explored how strengths can be powerful motivations for our work and how strengths is a powerful lens for communication.
We also did some work on trust and how trust is connected to strengths. Looking forward to part 3!
CliftonStrengths for Families and Couples Program
Did another run of CliftonStrengths (StrengthsFinder) program for families and couples.
Families and marriages are the bedrock of our society so seeing the impact gives me great joy.
It was another very fulfilling time of seeing parents and children and spouses relating to each other, strengthening their relationships and bonds through the strengths and values conversations.

Wen Wei Loh and I have many influencing strengths in common. We were facilitating a cliftonstrengths team building workshop together for over 50pax.
Yet, what stood out were the unique strengths that we bring.
Wen Wei is Mr Woo, Includer and Positivity. I am Mr Belief, Command and Self-Assurance.
We both had Communication, Maximizer, Strategic and Ideation.
He brings light-heartedness and warmth through his stories and engagement.
I bring clarity by talking about the hidden thoughts, unspoken rules and gunning for the heart of the matter.
You can imagine the Yin and Yangโ๏ธ
We had a blast ๐ฅ
While results can certainly be improved, opportunities lost would not be recovered. Iโm glad we chose to pair up despite a short runway.
Iโm convinced 10 years ago. And Iโm still convinced now.
โ Leveraging Talents is fundamentally different from leveraging work experience, knowledge and skills.
The X factor ๐ฅthat one has can NEVER be replicated by another.
โ Only by leveraging through #strengthspartnership that we can enjoy each otherโs X factor ๐ฅ and the power we uniquely bring.
