Strengthening Relationships: Coaching with YWAM Couple

Victor Seet doing Couple Coaching with CliftonStrengths and ontological approach for YWAM Joseph Chean and wife

Summary:
This was a very memorable couple coaching session done in 2020. Joseph has been my mentor for many years and helped me intentionally with character building when I started my career as a fresh graduate. He was former director of YWAM Singapore. His wife, coincidentally, was my Secondary School form teacher who deeply impacted me when I was a youth.

I realized how coaching requires so much trust between the parties especially when it comes to coaching in the context of marriage and family relationships. So much vulnerabilities were revealed. Trust between each other is critical. This couple coaching session I did for them, also did 2 things for me as I reflected.

  1. it confirms in my heart that I am deeply passionate about what I do.

  2. It made me realized that it is courage that kept me going. Even though I could see myself as an experienced coach, I still felt inadequate to do this coaching session. In the end, the session seemed to do more wonders for me! I realized that if they had not sowed in my life, I will not have been who I am today. I have learnt courage from them and I was determined to practice courage in moving forward. I’m immensely grateful for the trust shown in me.

Hope this short reflection will encourage those of you who need courage to overcome the challenges ahead!

2024 update.
Joseph Chean has since passed on in a car accident. This experience and post deeply reminded me of his great impact in my life. I am who I am because of his belief in me.
