Summary of session:
This was a five days leadership retreat conducted in a retreat center in the mountains in Lebanon. There were 30 participants from 16 nationalities working for an NGO. Participants come the US, Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Italy, Russia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Singapore, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Bangladesh and Australia.

We started the week debriefing and sharing the experiences from helping the displaced and homeless. The goal was to debrief the emotions that lived deeply within the bodies of each participant. There were many tears shed as the emotional burdens carried by the participants were being lifted.

Following the debrief, we shifted focus to working in teams and increasing our capacity for personal effectiveness.

I did some teachings using key ontological frameworks - how our language, emotions and body are deeply integrated and affect how each individual shows up to the team. The teachings were always followed by different activities to increase embodied self awareness. Activities were designed to increase awareness on breathing, centering, body dispositions, moods and emotions, and listening through our bodies.

I also covered strengthening and rebuilding trust in teams. Some of the emotions surfaced were raw as different hurts were confronted. There were some reconciliation work done in small groups and in 1-1 settings. We also had structured play time, bonding time through sports and hiking and many individual conversations.

Participants left with greater embodied self-awareness and practices they can use to grow and sustain their own personal and leadership Growth.
