Victor Seet co-facilitating petrochemical emerging leaders program on self-awareness and coaching skills for APAC managers in Singapore

This emerging leadership program held in Singapore was conducted for a group of 40 new managers and supervisors from different parts of Asia from a global Petrol Chemical organisation. I facilitated some experiential leadership activities and coaching role-plays to help the new leaders gain coaching skills and self-awareness through deliberate practices. This has been the eight run of the program.

The eighth APAC run of the UNC-designed Emerging Leaders Programme was held in Conrad hotel, Singapore in August 2025, timed immediately before the National Day weekend. Participants represented China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore across the 4.5-day programme.

Victor co-facilitated Day 4 with Damien O'Malley, a leadership coach whose warm humour and strong people engagement created a natural complement to Victor's direct, laser-focused coaching style and candid feedback approach. The pairing brought a dynamic range of facilitation energy to the cohort throughout the day.

The session centred on self-awareness and self-management as foundational leadership competencies — a theme woven through coaching conversations that challenged emerging leaders to practise genuine empathy while simultaneously holding their team members accountable for performance. Navigating this tension — care and accountability — is one of the most demanding growth edges for new leaders, and a core focus of Victor's integrated coaching approach. The tension often surfaced during the difficult conversations as well as the high pressure leadership labs. The emerging leaders finished day 4 with an integrated understanding of their leadership style, their strengths and challenges while navigating difficult conversations, and the self-awareness to recognise and manage themselves under pressure.
