1st team coaching session for 2025!

Travelled to Bintan and did a CliftonStrengths Team session for Centre for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth (CSP) team from Singapore. The aim was to have the team connected at a deeper level, focusing on strengthening psychological safety and demonstrate an increased level of openness.

It was a small intimate setting. After a short time of covering the foundations of CliftonStrengths, we deep dived into team dynamics and culture. During one of the workshop activities, an opportunity opened up and I switched from workshop facilitator to team coach mode.

That meant putting all my content aside and choosing to work with the team in an adaptive way, focusing on emerging data. As I sensed a shift, I invited the team to go deep with each other and share about they can thrive with each other and receive tangible support.

In the end, each person on the team took risks to be vulnerable and the sharing became raw, honest and at the same time uplifting and inspiring. One took risk to share a pent-up frustration. One displayed courage and shared how certain areas of hurt that took place. One apologise for certain behaviours. As an observer, I saw how the team connected deeper and were united in spirit.

It certainly is not common to see such team dynamics and deep conversations. Am super delighted with the outcome.

Communication is a two way street.

In a facilitation session, communication takes place between the facilitator and the participants.

Sometimes there is great chemistry. Some participants energize the facilitator. Some drain.

📷: Flew in from Singapore to Hong Kong, this was a CliftonStrengths Team Communication Full Day session with a regional team. Participants were from Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and China.

Through the day, I remained highly energized and motivated.

There was great chemistry. There were lots of good natured banter and laughter. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations.

▶ We covered basic strengths fundamentals

▶ We moved to learning and practicing foundational elements needed for great communication and teamwork

▶ We covered blindspots that often lead to conflicts and misunderstandings

▶ We practice “catching people doing right” using a simple and effective tool

Finished a coaching skills workshop designed to help a group of managers increase their abilities to coach their staff. The managers all had their CliftonStrengths Profiles as well. The aim was not just to learn coaching skills. Additionally, the design was to enable each person to see how they could use their talent themes to do coaching.

The CliftonStrengths Coaching Skills workshop focused on 3 coaching tools to help the managers deal with different scenarios:
1. Growing and developing high performers
2. Difficult Conversations with low performers
3. Performance review conversations

Glad that the Strengths coaching workshop went very well. If you are interested, check out Strengths Coaching Skills Workshop.

Leadership Development Program - Coaching Skills for Emerging Leaders

As more and more organizations adopt a competency-driven growth model, coaching skills is seen more as a key competency required for managers.

Finished another leadership development program focusing on coaching skills for emerging leaders. This was the last run for 2024. There were participants from Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, India, Malaysia and Singapore.

We did a couple of role plays to help bring the coaching skills alive. We also did some leadership labs to help the leaders realize how they show show up during highly stressful and dynamic situations and grow in their self-awareness.

Overall, it was a great partnership with Damien to bring the leadership lessons to life!

Emerging Leaders Program - Coaching Skills & Leadership Development

I danced with the participants! 🕺

This was how I ended the day after facilitating the last day of a four days leadershipdevelopment program last week.

Dinner by the sea. Lots of laughter, conversations and dancing!

It was a blast.💥

Often, we as facilitators might choose to disconnect from the participants after the program ended (mostly because we are too tired).

This time, I intentionally chose to stay after the program to connect with the participants. Many would be flying back to their home countries.

And I’m glad that the participants open up and invited me into their space. We chatted about leadership lessons, challenges in organizational leadership, hashtag#coaching and parenting.

This wasn’t a StrengthsFinder program.

Instead, I’m one of the two themeweavers on the last day. Our job is to help participants internalize and practice all the content they have picked up from the program.

This was the second last run of the program for the year. Looking forward to the last run!

📷: Sorry. No photos of me dancing with them.

Had the privilege to facilitate a CliftonStrengths Team Workshop for the Strategy and Transformation Team from Prudential Singapore.

Workshop was designed to give more time for people to understand their dominant talent themes and to connect the themes to their work. The workshop also give space for each person to understand different working and communication styles, including that of the Team Leader.

Had Yeang Cherng with me as an observer. Took the chance and got him to share how he was able to lead three companies, Kingmaker Consultancy, Amplitude Asia and StrengthsTransform and successfully build a strengths based culture within the team.

It was a wonderful way to end the week! Very grateful!
